Booger is one the dogs in need now at the one of our rescue centers. We have already started the work on his healing but funds are need to make him 100%. He was rescued off the side of the road in the Sumral community with another dog, see below his picture that was dead in a garbage bag. They were both in that one bag. A passer bye noticed the bag moving and called on our centers for help. We were glad to assist.

Way to go CiCi Hopper. Just one of many miracles at Pine Belt Animal Rescue and Adoption Centers. CiCi Hoper is an ex-fight dog who came into the shelter on deaths door. Through the hard work of our rescuers she was saved, rehabilated, wounds were healed, health restored. She now lives with Chris and Melissa Goodman as a personal pet. We know she has great life now. Her rehabilitation was paid for by the helping hands of our donators. Thank you all!

 About Us

We are a non kill animal rescue and adoption center. We are based in the Oak Grove Community of Hattiesburg, MS.  We love our volunteers, donators, and foster homes. They are our greatest assets. We welcome volunteers of all ages from all walks of life. Our facility location is held the highest of standards for animal care. We pride ourselves on healthy, happy pets who really enjoy life. Our pets are altered, dewormed, and current on vaccinations prior to coming to live with you at their new forever home.  We have a gaurantee return policy on all of our pets. If for any reason you adopt a pet from us and it doesn't work we will be glad to welcome it back.

Our History

Founded by Dianne Breakfield in 2002 in Lumberton, MS to rescue and heal dogs and cats that traditional shelters and rescues would euthanize. Dianne did her work on a limited basis until 2006 when she received the 501c3 non profit status. She then was able to bring her hard work into the eyes of the public and began receiving help from concerned and caring citizens.

In August 2007 Pam Byrd of Oak Grove joined the group. She needed help with cats she had rescued on an individual basis. Her hard work and dedication quickly made her the woman in charge of the Cat Rescue Program. She houses and cares for cats in her home and over sees the foster program in Oak Grove.

In September 2007 Chris and Melissa Goodman joined the group. They were in need of help with dogs they rescued on an individual basis in Stone and Pearl River Counties. The limited space of the Lumberton location made it impossible for the dogs to be moved. The couple agreed house and care for the dogs out of their home in Perkinston. Their animals never came to live us, nor did they become the responsability of Pine Belt. This allowed them to stay hands on and work daily with the rescue center while maintaining their independence as rescuers.

In January 2008 Dianne Breakfield facing medical problems decided to pass the rescue torch. Pam Byrd, Chris and Melissa Goodman step to the front lines of rescue. Over 50 dogs were moved in permanent and temporary homes from the Lumberton location in a 60 day period. Dianne wanting to remain part of the rescue movement decided to become a DBA of the group. The sanctuary now known as Pine Belt Animal Sanctuary is that DBA. Pine Belt assist when possible with the care of the 25 dogs she houses. Some of the dogs are feral and others have been ruled un-adoptable by traditional standards. Sanctuary Mailing Address: 88 B. Lowe Ln, Lumberton, MS 39455.

Patricia McNeese in Collins, MS who has been apart of Pine Belt Rescue since its inception is in the process of becoming an official DBA that will be known as Collins Animal Rescue. If you are interested in working with us and Patricia to get the non kill philosophy into Collins, MS please let us know.

In April 2008 a group of concerned citizens with the help of Melissa and Chris Goodman formed the official DBA Wiggins Animal Rescue. The goal of the group is to house and care for animals abandoned in the City of Wiggins and Stone County. They are also bringing low cost spay and neuter to the area. This is a first for Stone County .

Our Mission

To rescue, rehabilitate, and place in forever homes the abandoned and homeless pets in MS, educate the public about the benefits of low cost and spay and neuter.

Education

We believe in educating the public on low cost spay and neuter programs available to them. If you are in need of low cost spay and neuter please let us know. We will do our best to assist you or direct you to a program that can assist you. Hundreds of animals are euthanized each year in MS due to lack of homes for them. If we all do our part and spay and neuter our pets we can drastically reduce this problem.

Non Profit Status

We are a licensed non profit as defined by the IRS and the State of Mississippi. Donations made are deductible on your income tax return. Our EIN number is available upon request. Thank you for your support.

Rabies Vaccinations

The State of Mississippi requires that all domestic cats and dogs being kept as pets be vaccinated for rabies. Please contact your local veterinarian for this service.
