Today I got a call from the Desoto County Animal Shelter.  The shelter is running over with Pit Bulls needing home or Foster Homes.  It is not the policy of this shelter to adopt out pits, but in the past we have been able to help place some of these deserving dogs. They have 15 right now in desperate need.

All these dogs were found wandering the streets.  It seems they are thrown out after they are no longer any use to their owners.  All of these dogs are extremely affectionate, loving, and deserve a chance at a good life. None of them show any aggression and I was able to inner act with them.  They are so sweet.  Please post and cross post to anyone you know who might be interested in adoption of fostering.  Their time is up, but the shelter will hold these dogs if someone is interested.  Please contact me or the Desoto County Animal Shelter.  Ask for Cece or Melissa.  They desperately need someone to foster the mother pit and her 8 puppies.

We have a calico cat with separation anxiety problems, and she excretes everywhere but her box when she is left alone in the house.  Would you be able to find a home for her where there is someone home most of the time?  Her name is PJ and she is fixed.  She's about 4 or 5 years old.  She's sweet with lots of attention, which we can't give her much of since we all work and she gets left at home quite a bit.

We are Allan Katz, Danae Columbus and Carolyn Long, three animal lovers based in metro New Orleans that often try to help homeless dogs and cats. We currently house/feed more than a dozen formerly homeless animals between us. Allan - who took in a feral HIV main coon - is the corporate sponsor of the feral cat facilities at the Lousiana SPCA. Danae is on their Advisory Council. We know of your organization because Carolyn is a regular contributor.

We are writing today because we desparately need a home for "Buster", a pit bull/catahoula mix that was dropped in Carolyn's yard on the bayou in Des Allemands, Louisiana (about an hour outside New Orleans) last week. Buster's collar was in good condition,no fleas or scratches on him, and he is in good health.
Buster weighs 49 pounds, 3-4 years old according to Danae's vet, heart worm negative, and knows some basic commands- sit, heal, etc. He loves to ride in the car or just sit under Allan's desk so he can be petted. Obviously he was someone's dog.
We purchased a display ad (with Buster's photo) in the Times-Picayune, the New Orleans daily newspaper, last Sunday and got several calls - but no perfect match.  We did not want to give him to anyone who we thought might fight him, so we were being very cautious.
On Monday we arranged with Ana Zorilla (the exec dir at LA SPCA) to have Buster neutered the next day. Tuesday morning Danae took Buster over to the mobile clinic and he was put in a cage until surgery time. Another pet owner immediately showed up with a much larger male dog who was put in the next cage. The dogs started barking at each other and kept barking. The staff person then asked that Danae take Buster inside the SPCA to have the surgery there. The staff person asked if Danae could put the leash back on Buster. Danae opened the cage and before she could get the leash on, Buster rushed over to the other dog's cage barking furiously. Danae tried to get between Buster and the closed door of the cage and Buster nipped Danae on the side of the leg. Danae is fine but Buster was placed on a 10-day bite watch.
The LA SPCA euthanizes 60% of the dogs that come in. With this bite mark against him, Buster will never make the cut.  Buster spent a week with us and was a very sweet boy. But he obviously has a problem with aggressive dogs. If we had had Buster neutered at a private clinic, there would not have been an issue.
We believe Buster's life is worth saving. Although we do not know his background, we think Buster has potential. We already have more dogs and cats than we can handle right now. We were hoping you all could take Buster in. We would fly Buster to Utah and make a $1000 donation to your agency.
In a separate email I have sent pictures of Buster.
Please help us save Buster.
